Part of ~lance's adventure in Piniglarism

This past football season I was the Windsor Academy Knights football chaplain. The head coach asked me back in March if I was interested in being part of the team. I had already been praying about opportunities. I got back with the head coach and told him I would do it. Since I had never been a chaplain before I had to ask, “What all do you want me to do?” He said “You know pray with the team, come to some practices, and do some bible studies.”
The first part of the season was a little different. The players didn’t know me, the coaches acted like I was in the way, and I didn’t really have anyone to talk to while in the stands. The first football game I was at, the players said after I came into the locker room, “Turn that off the preacher is here!” So needless to say it was slightly awkward.
I continued to pray over the weeks for the players and my ability to lead. I didn’t want to be the weird guy but I wanted to be authentic. As the weeks passed the players slowly started talking and even asking me questions about my life. During several of the pre-game meals I had some great conversations with players about their life and families.
As the season went on I noticed more players opening up and sharing with me. The coaches began talking and sharing their stories also.
The season ended this past Friday, and after the game I had players thank me for being part of the team. It was great ending to a long season.
