Over the past 2 months my sidekick has been acting funny when I tried to charge it.  I had to hold the phone a certain way to make sure it charged.  Right before I left for Ecuador, the phone wouldn’t take a charge at all.  I thought it was the battery so I ordered a new battery.  The battery didn’t do anything.  So after some very nice customer care reps and some real pains, I have a new phone.  I was only able to save half of my contacts.  So if you leave me a message, make sure you leave me your number just in case you didn’t make the cut!

It looks like we are Orange Bowl bound.  There is a chance of the dawgs playing in the Rose bowl.  How can this be?  After losing to Tennessee I thought we were out, and now it seems like the “upset bug” has bitten enough top teams to make it possible.  Go Dawgs!

Quito Trip I’m Home!

I’m back in the states and I have to say that Ecuador is a beautiful place. We had a slight delay getting home because we had to stop in Panama to refuel. Apparently the plane that was on the runway, is still there! We had to leave with half a tank of fuel to get over the Spanish plane.

I have never seen a volcano before and that experience was a great one.

Here are some of the pictures from my trip.

Quito Trip Day 6

This morning we went to a local school and visited with the children attending class.  I took my digital camera and set up a photo area and made school pictures.  I took each child’s picture by themselves and also a class photograph.  Steve the missionary is going to have the pictures developed and give one to each child.  I felt like I took some good pictures, it was mainly because of all of my experience with Olan Mills.  After the picture taking it was time for recess.  I played with a group of children in the game of freeze tag.  Not knowing any Spanish, it was kinda hard to yell “Hey hurry up and tag me, and I am fast enough to unfreeze everyone”, so I mainly just jumped up and down and stretched my arms out as far as they would go.  We left school and headed back for lunch.  We stopped on the way back to camp to look at some jeans.  There is a small town close to camp that sells every brand of jeans you could imagine.  You can get Abercrombie Jeans for $8.  I should have bought a bunch of pair of jeans and started a booth at Smiley’s.  We continued our quest for camp and took a short break to snap some aerial shots of the camp.  After arriving at the camp we had a short break and then we heard from one of the local missionaries that works in the jungle.  His wife and him shared with us all the great things God is doing with the people living in the jungle.  Once the jungle missionary finished telling us about his work, Justin and I packed and headed back to Quito.  We traveled the 4 hours back to the capital and we are trying to grab some rest before our 7 am flight.

Quito Trip Day 5

This morning we woke up early and headed for breakfast.  During breakfast Josh from Alabama gave his testimony.  It was great to hear from another co-laborer in Christ and how God is using him at his church.  We gathered a few things and drove to a local village.  While at the village we met several of the local Ecuadorians and even got to pet pigs!  I really enjoyed my time in the village and interacting with the locals.  I learned quickly that the ladies here really like Blonde North American men.  They smile a lot at me and laugh at my Spanish.  (But then again the rest of the team laughs at my Spanish)  While we loading up to leave they brought us a big “bunch” of onion stalks to say thanks for coming by and they hoped to see us again.  

We ate lunch and headed out again to the town of Banos.  (Bathroom) 

We traveled toward the city and stopped right beside the area the volcano had spewed lava down the mountain.  I got me a volcano rock souvenir for my desk at work.  We then hiked down to a waterfall and took pictures and even walked on a cool bridge next to the waterfall.  We then hiked back out and headed up to a place where you can ride a Cable car.  We rode the cable car across the river and were able to see another waterfall as we approached the other side of the mountain.  Then we went to the city of Banos.  We visited the Catholic church there in the city and even shopped a small bit in the market.  They have boot leg stores that sell DVD’s and CD’s.  So I felt right at home, kinda like I was at Smiley’s.

We left for camp and when we arrived supper was waiting on us.  We quickly ate and now we are headed to sleep.
