This morning I arrived for Jury Duty again. We all got lined up and waited to enter the court room. It was finally time. Then we were told to go back and wait until they came to get us. Then we were told the defendant made a plea. So now I have to call a number on Wednesday evening and then possibly report back on Thursday. I am ready to serve. Put me on the list! Let my people free!

Today was my first day of Jury Duty. I wasn’t picked for the selection core but I was told to call back after 5:30 p.m. to see if my service is needed. When I told folks I had Jury Duty most replied “Just tell them that you are a minister, and they will let you go” Well 5 years ago I was picked and had to serve for a whole week and another baptist minister had to serve too. So that doesn’t really work. They did have a time to let them know if you had a legal reason not to serve and they would let you go home. They were: You were over 70, you were active in the military, you were the only child care provider for the entire week, you were a full time student, or you had some sort of emergency. One guy’s pregnant wife was in the hospital and they let him go.

There were about 300 folks there to serve today, crammed in a very small room. There were some interesting names there with me like:

Tequila Booze
Joe Jackson (But he had his shoes on)
& Chuck Taylor

Hopefully tomorrow I will get a really interesting case and I get to use my democratic power and let that woman free!

It seems like everyday that I have big plans to work around in my yard, I’m either sick or it rains. Today I am super congested. Yuck! Maybe I should start tricking myself and the weather and say stuff like, “I plan to sleep all after noon and listen to the rain” Or “I bet I can build 25 snowmen out of all the snow that has landed in my yard”

This morning I took my first jog since I had my knee surgery. My knee did ok, but I did have some swelling. When I got back I had a van pull up in my driveway. I didn’t expect anyone, so I assumed it was probably the wrong address. When the nicely dressed folks came to my door, they asked if they could ask me a few questions. Immediately I knew it was either Mormons or Jehovah’s Witness. (Why wasn’t it Christians? That discussion is for another day) The Gentleman read for me a passage out of his Bible and told me of God’s love. He was very nice and then asked me if I could change one thing about the world, what would I change. My first thought was “That HDTV’s weren’t so expensive” but I knew that wasn’t what he was after. So I took a stab at his question and gave my best middle school answer I could muster up, “Uhhhhhhh, I’m not sure”. His lady friend laughed and said that is a hard question. Then I quickly replied “I would probably….” and he said “Well Jehovah wants you to depend on him”.

They gave me a book called, “Draw Close to Jehovah”.

They were very nice people, but:

They believe that what I believe is false.
They translate God wrong, it’s “Yahweh” not “Jehovah”
They don’t believe in the trinity and they believe Jesus is inferior to God.
They believe all modern translations of the bible are wrong, except for the “New World Translation”
They believe salvation comes from good works and faith.

Hopefully when I share my faith, I am as nice as these folks.

“This sure isn’t Chick-fil-A!”

Heard tonight while standing in line at Wendy’s on Zebulon Road.

So Grandma hasn’t blogged in a month? So she tells me last night that her computer won’t let her get on. So I get my laptop out and we log on and everything is fine. Then she begins to explain to me that her computer and the computer at the church won’t let her on. So I get her to show me and I realize that Microsoft Internet Explorer won’t let her type. I use firefox on my computer so I didn’t know there was any problems. It seems that Internet Explorer didn’t like her blog. So I had to go in and change a few things and I have her up and running again.
So the moral of the story is: Just because it is the biggest web browser out there, doesn’t mean it’s the best!

Ditch IE and start using Firefox!

Last night we saw more of Sawyer & Kate and mainly Jack. I thought it was a great episode. It’s hard to go from Desmond Time-Shifting Flashback to Jack and his tattoos but it was good.

Here is a recap:

Kate wanted to go back and rescue Jack. (I guess she hasn’t learned yet, that she is the easiest one to catch)
Karl is deeply brainwashed. But he loves Alex and making stupid names for stars in his backyard of the Jungle.
Tom is going to get some stones for Jack. Is this for-shadowing?
Thai girls aren’t good at recognizing tourist.
Isabelle reminded me alot of the creepy old woman in the clock & ring store from last week. She is the Sheriff? Then who is Barney Fife?
Jack isn’t as stupid as Sawyer. He never got shocked by the bear cage feeding gizmo.
Juliet isn’t willing to tell Jack much info. She got branded. But then again no one can see it. So why not just say she is excommunicated? Or brand her on her hand?
So now we have a new group, We have the lost originals, the tail section lost, the others, the other others, the French woman, Desmond, & now the watchers (I’m a wheel watcher, I’m a wheel watcher).
The mystery of Cindy is a little bit cleared up. But then again I am more confused.
The boat that Michael and Walt sailed off on, seemed to show back up when Juliet, Jack, & the others were going back to the original island.

Sawyer had another great line when he was talking to Kate “Ok, I’m glad you agree” very funny. Another one that I liked was, “Like the steal a kid off the raft project?”.

Next week it looks like the focus will be on Hurley. You just can’t do a Hurley episode with out some humor. So I am sure next week will be more laid back and full of laughs.

Today I went to lunch with the new uth guy at Maynard Baptist. It was the first time I had ever been to his church. It was easy to get to and located right off the interstate. We ate at the Mexican restaurant in Forsyth. I had a great meal and was able to talk about activities and programs that we each offer. I always like to hear what other churches are doing to reach students. I am thankful that other churches see the importance to reach young folks. Hopefully I greeted him to the community in a good way.

This weekend I took a group to Snowshoe WV to do some snow skiing. I really didn’t know what to expect, since I wouldn’t be able to ski because of my recently new hamstring graft. Well I had a great time. I led 3 bible studies and I had a great time playing in the snow, tubing, and sledding on a waxed piece of cardboard. It snowed everyday we were there. Our temperatures each day were: -4, -4, 0, -3 So to say the least, it was cold!

My favorite part of the trip was just talking to students. Some of them are carrying so much pain around they will do anything to try and get rid of it. I always tried to point them back to Christ and share with them my experiences and failures.

Some of them are really trying to live a life for God and just needed some encouragement.

Hopefully everyone got some rest last night before having to hit the grind again.
